Laura Dyet

Founder | Doula | Yoga Teacher

Hi! My name is Laura (she/her) and I am birth/postpartum doula, yoga instructor, and Early Childhood Educator (MEd).

Before I became a birthworker, I was a full-time educator in China and South Korea for five years. I completed my Masters degree in Early Childhood Education, and envisioned a life-long career of teaching in international schools around the globe. However, even though I loved facilitating play-based learning for young children and witnessing their development, I began to feel like something was missing for me in a classroom setting.

While working as a teacher, I travelled to Costa Rica to complete my yoga teacher training, and from that moment I started to daydream about combining all my passions into a business. Holistic medicine, nutrition, and herbalism were always things I valued in my personal life, and I began to see ways I could turn this into a profession as well.

After my time in Asia I spent the next three years in England, France, and Switzerland. I continued to work with young children, but in a home setting, and this is where things really began to click for me. I knew I loved working with children, but I began focussing more on supporting parents too. I also worked one-on-one with several prenatal and postpartum yoga clients, and became fascinated with how the body moves during birth. I don’t remember exactly when I learned what a “doula” was, but I was instantly intrigued - this seemed like the missing piece of the puzzle!

The few years I lived in Europe really helped clarify my interest in birthwork; I read books, took professional development courses, and began volunteering with clients during my free time. Attending my first birth was one of the most beautiful, empowering moments of my life so far. Since then, I have attended over 100 births and taught over 700 hours of pre/postnatal yoga classes. I’m passionate about physiological birth, evidence-based practices, and the political nature of birthwork.

I launched Gather and Grow Birth Co. in 2026 after years of working under my own name. This decision came from an eagerness to grow my business and expand my offerings as I also grow my own family. I’m currently located in Guelph, Ontario and support clients in Guelph, Cambridge, and surrounding areas. I teach pre/postnatal yoga at The WOMB and enjoy creating spaces for parents to connect.

I am an avid reader, a proud auntie, and the best version of myself when I’m in nature. This work has brought me so much joy, and I’m so grateful to share special moments with the families I work with. Thank-you for being here!

our name & values

Gather & Grow Birth Co.” is a name that encompasses the services we offer, as well as our intention as active members of the community.

GATHER represents our yoga classes, where building a sense of community is at the core of every group. “Gather” also represents our passion for sharing offerings from other amazing local community members, as well as our love for foraging medicinal herbs.

GROW represents our doula support, quite literally as your grow your baby but also as you expand your knowledge and trust in the birthing process. We will also support you and your little one as they “grow” too!

Here are the values we’ll always strive to uphold:

Evidence-Based: You always have the final say in any decisions pertaining to your body or your baby. Understanding all of your options, pros and cons, and knowing you can refuse any medical treatment creates a feeling of empowerment throughout your perinatal experience. We will share evidence-based resources with our community to ensure that everyone has the information they need to make the right choices for their family.

Inclusive:All people should be celebrated, regardless of gender, sexuality, race, ability, or any other trait that deviates from the dominant narrative. We are committed to creating spaces that are inclusive and affirming of all our community members.

Political: We believe birthwork is political because it exists within systems that shape who has access to safe, respectful, and equitable care. The act of supporting people through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum challenges power structures that have historically controlled bodies - especially those of women, Black, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities. Birthwork is political because it’s about power: who holds it, who is denied it, and how reclaiming it can transform our communities for the better. We are committed to being life-long learners in order to radicalize our practices and better serve the communities we work with.
